Michael Mendelson

Actor & Director

MICHAEL MENDELSON has been past of the Resident Artist Company since its inception in 2008.

"When I first arrived in Portland in late summer of 1991 the first shows I saw were at Artists Rep and I remember thinking, "This is where I want to work." With these artists... My first show with Artists Rep was in 1997, Love!Valour!Compassion! playing identical twins, John and James Jekyll and it was an extraordinary experience. Then in 1999 Gary Essendine in Present Laughter. Of course, I had just moved to New York so I came back to town for this one. Then at the end of the 2006 season, I had the great fortune of playing in Theatre District. These three productions had an impact on my life that is a challenge to put into words. In our work it's rare to have an artistic home, and when Allen Nause invited me into the Artists Rep family it felt like a dream come true. Almost immediately I felt as if i could breathe a bit easier, I wasn't sure what it meant but I knew it would change my life as a human and as an artist and it has. Artists Rep creates an environment where artists are nurtured, stretched and free to do our very best work. It's an artistic home where I am inspired always by my fellow artists on and off the stage, and behind the scenes to continue to raise my personal bar every time."

Since 2008 Michael has been part of more than 35 Artists Rep productions as an actor or director. These include Mr. Marmalade, Orson's Shadow, House and Garden, Eurydice, Holidazed, Three Sisters, Becky's New Car, Design For Living, Othello, Superior Donuts, Cherry Orchard, God of Carnage, Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Christmas Carol, Red Herring, Ten Chimneys, Mistakes Were Made, The Playboy oft he Western World, Intimate Apparel, Blithe Spirit, Tribes, The Price, The Understudy, Miracle Worker, Mothers and Sons, Skin of our Teeth, Trevor, Marjorie PrimeThe Importance of Being Earnest, An Octoroon and Magellanica.
