The Ghosts of Celilo weaves a bittersweet love story within a mystery and features a haunting score of Native American music and traditional musical theatre songs. The production is part of the 50-year-observance of the flooding of Celilo Falls by the construction of the Dalles Dam in 1957.

In 1957, Celilo Falls, one of the
largest waterfalls in the West and a
sacred fishing ground for Native

people on the Columbia, was flooded by the creation of The Dalles Dam. A historic engineering feat, it was disastrous for the people who had made their home by the falls for centuries. From this, Marv Ross, Thomas Morning Owl, Tom Hampson, and Greg Tamblyn have created a world premiere musical event of stunning depth and power. In it you follow the story of two young Native boys, snatched from their home and sent to a missionary boarding school. There the boys are befriended by the daughter of a white school teacher. When they hear the falls are to be flooded, the three attempt a daring escape back to Celilo to catch a ceremonial "first salmon" before the floodgates of the new dam close and inundate their home forever. Get swept away in the mystery and drama of this very human take on an event that changed Oregon forever.
