Susannah is thrilled to be a Resident Artist at Artists Rep where she has performed in 12 productions and given the treasured gift of artistic growth from the Artists Rep family, including her new role as Music Events Specialist. She loves the art of making connections between theatre and music communities in any way she can think of!
She’s been a member of the Portland theatre scene since moving here from Los Angeles in 1988. In Los Angeles, she worked as a young professional performer until she went to college, earning a teaching credential, and taught 3rd grade in South Central Los Angeles until she had the realization that acting was a pretty good gig.
She got married, and relocated to Portland, and soon after worked on Jessica Litwak’s A Pirate’s Lullaby, directed by the amazing Allen Nause. Allen convinced her that Artists Rep was the place to be during an Artists Rep bowl-a-thon fundraiser where they bowled side by side.
Allen is a darn good bowler.
Playing Mrs. Lovett at Portland Opera in Sweeney Todd was a recent joy, and she loves participating in new work, and will be in that process at Portland Playhouse in January of 2018 participating in Michelle Horgan’s Scarlet.
Favorite roles at Artists Rep include performing her holiday show Mars On Life for three seasons, playing Dinah in The Quality of Life, Julia in Holidazed, Becca in Rabbit Hole, and Diana in Next To Normal.
She’s not a psychiatrist, but she played one on T.V. on NBC’s Grimm; Drew Wu’s psychiatrist, Dr. Richet.
She is also a recording artist, and her most recent recording "Susannah Mars, Call It Home; The Music of Richard Gray" is available, along with her first, the MAC nominated "Take Me To The World," on LML Music on itunes.
Spend more time at itunes and subscribe to her podcast Adventures In Artslandia. There’s lots more about Susannah at www.susannahmars.com.
She lives in Damascus, with two dogs, two chickens, two daughters and a husband, and listens to lots of books on tape and podcasts traveling from there to downtown Portland most days. If you have any suggestions for a good listen drop her a line at email@example.com.
