2017 Gala

Date: TBD

EMBARK on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure celebrating the World Premiere of E.M. Lewis’ sweeping epic Magellanica, directed by Artistic Director Dámaso Rodríguez. Set in the biting and unforgiving terrain of Antarctica in 1985, Magellanica is the story of eight scientists from across the globe converging at the South Pole to research if there is a hole in the sky. It’s a gripping tale of passion, inner demons, and survival. Magellanica is the recipient of a 2017 Oregon Community Foundation’s Creative Heights Award and a prestigious Edgerton Foundation New Play Award.

TRAVERSE the tundra without leaving Portland and support Artists Rep’s mission of producing intimate, provocative theatre and providing a home for local artists of varied backgrounds to take creative risks. Together we will champion new work and nurture new perspectives in an evening honoring creativity, innovation and the stage.

Magellanica is about the importance of truth. It has scientists as heroes. It’s about a world that can either tear apart or come together for its own survival, and I think that’s important.” -Playwright E.M. Lewis
